In Nova Scotia some eye examinations are covered. Here is a list of people who may have eye examinations covered by MSI:
Children 9 years and under:
All children are covered for routine eye examinations every 2 years.
65 years and above:
Routine eye examinations are covered every 2 years.
Routine Diabetic eye examinations are covered every year. It is important to monitor diabetics at least once each year to look for signs of diabetic retinopathy. Early detection can prevent significant vision loss and can prevent other complications from diabetes.
Certain Eye Diseases:
If you have been diagnosed with a certain vision threatening eye disease you might be covered for a routine eye examination.
Emergency or Red-Eye Care:
- Eye injury or foreign body removal
- Infection or severe allergy
- Recent/new floaters or flashes of light
- Sudden vision loss
- Severe eye pain
The above emergency conditions are all covered by MSI and should be treated as soon as possible. If you develop any of these conditions call our office and we will try to see you the same day. If you experience an eye emergency and are not able to reach us please proceed to the hospital emergency department.
